One of my all time favorite vocal jazz albums is American Song (2004) by Andy Bey. He also delivered the vocals for the spiritual jazz classic Celestial Blues by Gary Bartz in the early seventies.
Nate Chinen wrote a moving obituary, celebrating this incredible voice. Thanks to Dutch jazz critic Frits Lagerwerff who once in the Bimhuis gave me the tip to check out American Song.
